Gestational Diabetes threshold

I meet women in the yoga classes who find themselves with a diagnosis of Gestational diabetes and are now considered “high risk” and transferred to “standard care” where they have a different health provider every visit, also more medical appointments than before and begin having to monitor everything they eat. It’s not because they’re less healthy – it’s because the threshold for diagnosis has changed.

A wonderfully healthy pregnancy is now turned upside down and the likelihood of her being recommended a scheduled induction is increased. It is interesting to note that although the number of women diagnosed has doubled since 2014 there is little to no change in health outcomes for mothers or babies.

Since 2014, more Australian women have been diagnosed with gestational diabetes than in previous years and compared to women in other countries. Please read this article for the facts https://bit.ly/2XHgJv7.
